A.W.A.R.E Goal Setting Ep #4: Break the Terror Barrier and Move Into Action

🎧 Listen to the EG Mindset Podcast: https://pod.link/1528974087
Hello and welcome back to the EG Mindset Podcast with Ernest Gikuma —a platform created to help individuals, business owners, and team leaders understand personality, improve performance, communicate with confidence, and build a productive culture.
In Episode 4 of the AWARE Goal-Setting Series, Ernest goes deeper into the Awareness stage before moving fully into Action. This episode explores how your conscious mind, subconscious mind, and body must work in alignment if you want to break through fear, overcome internal resistance, and create better results in life, business, and leadership.
If you have ever felt stuck between knowing what to do and actually doing it, this episode will help you understand why.
What this episode is about
The AWARE framework is a repeatable cycle for sustainable growth and goal achievement:
Alignment — align your values, beliefs, and goals
Awareness — understand how your inner world shapes your actions
Action — move deliberately toward the result
Reinforcement — use accountability, community, and support
Evaluation — review results, learn, and refine
In this episode, Ernest revisits Dr. Freeman Fleet’s stickman model of the mind to explain the difference between the conscious mind, which thinks and chooses, and the subconscious mind, which does not choose but reproduces what has been programmed into it.
He explains how your body becomes the instrument through which your inner programming expresses itself in the world.
Why this matters
Many people do not fail because they lack potential. They fail because they are internally divided.
One part of them wants growth, impact, better income, stronger leadership, or healthier habits. Another part is still conditioned to stay where things feel safe, familiar, and predictable.
That internal conflict creates what Ernest describes as the terror barrier — the invisible emotional resistance that appears when your goal is bigger than your current conditioning.
This episode helps you understand how fear, comfort zones, and past programming can slow your progress, and how to move through that tension with greater clarity and confidence.
Key ideas from Episode 4
1. Your conscious mind chooses, but your subconscious mind reproduces
Your conscious mind receives information through the five senses and processes it through higher faculties such as imagination, perception, memory, intuition, and intellect.
Your subconscious mind, however, does not decide what is true or false. It accepts repeated impressions and reproduces them through feeling, behavior, and habitual response.
2. Your body follows the dominant programming
Your body is the instrument of the mind. It moves through time and space according to the emotional instructions it receives.
That means your results are often not just the product of hard work, but the product of the alignment — or misalignment — between your thoughts, feelings, and conditioning.
3. Big goals can trigger fear
When a goal feels too far beyond what your subconscious mind considers safe, fear rises. You hesitate. You procrastinate. You overthink. You pull back.
This is not always laziness. Often, it is subconscious protection.
4. Results are feedback, not failure
One of the most powerful insights in this episode is that results are feedback. They reveal past conditioning. They do not define your future potential.
When you learn to interpret results correctly, you stop panicking and start adjusting.
5. The 80/20 rule can help you double results
Ernest uses a business and sales example to show how many people plateau at a familiar level of performance. By applying the 80/20 principle, you can identify the customers, activities, or team behaviors creating the greatest return and focus your effort where it matters most.
Three practical tools to reduce internal friction
Ernest shares three simple but powerful tools to help align your conscious goals with your subconscious conditioning:
Affirmation
Use emotionally engaged, intentional language to reinforce the result and identity you want to embody.
Visualization
See the result in your mind before it appears in your reality. Let imagination create emotional momentum.
Education
Feed your mind with the right ideas, frameworks, and language so you can become the person your next level requires.

Stop Waiting for Perfect Timing – Procrastination Isn’t Caution, It’s Fear in Disguise
At the start of the year, motivation is high. Goals feel exciting, clear, and achievable. But as the months pass and reality sets in, many people don’t stop because they lack desire — they stop because fear grows louder as the goal becomes real.
In this episode of the AWARE™ Goal Setting Series on the EG Success Mindset Podcast, Ernest Gikuma explores how procrastination often masquerades as wisdom. We tell ourselves we are being cautious, waiting for better news, more certainty, or the “right time” to act. In truth, this delay is rarely strategy — it is fear dressed up as caution.
You’ll learn the difference between the external economy (news, markets, uncertainty) and your internal economy (energy, focus, confidence, and decision-making). When your future becomes dependent on external conditions, momentum stalls and hesitation takes over. True progress begins when you reclaim control from within.
This episode also breaks down:
-
Why fear shows up the moment growth begins
-
The Terror Barrier and how conditioning keeps you safe but stuck
-
The Stickman Mind Model (conscious vs subconscious influence on action)
-
How procrastination, overthinking, and distraction are emotional safety responses
-
Three practical tools to recalibrate fear (physiology, breathing, and controlled discomfort)
-
How fear manifests differently across the CODE Personality Types (Connector, Organiser, Detail-Oriented, Effervescent)
You’ll discover that your subconscious mind prioritises safety, not success — which is why even when you know what to do, you may still hesitate. The key is not waiting for perfect certainty, but learning to act with emotional alignment and self-awareness.
If you want to understand how your personality responds to fear, pressure, and decision-making, the next step is simple.

Fortunes are made in transitions — and in this episode, I’m breaking down a simple truth:
If you can provide sufficient value, you’ll get to your big number.
The real question isn’t “Can I charge that?” — it’s who am I sitting in front of, and is the service I provide worth the amount I’m demanding from the marketplace?
But if you’re a leader, building results through a team, there’s another layer:
To lead people from past results to new results, you must understand how they’re wired. That’s where CODE comes in — a personality framework that helps you communicate, motivate, and lead with clarity.
The 4 CODE Types (Quick Overview)
C — Connectors (Connection & Contribution)
Connectors are people-first. They thrive when they feel meaning and purpose.
To lead them well: help them see the brighter side of the work, and the contribution they’re making.
O — Organisers (Stability, Order, Structure)
Organisers value stability. Uncertainty can stall them.
To turn that around: focus on what you can control — routines, systems, daily order. Let structure become your anchor.
D — Detail-Oriented (Competence & Logic)
Detail-oriented people value accuracy, competence, and logic.
When laws and conditions keep changing, it’s easy to get stuck in analysis — but your gift is meant for progress, not paralysis.
Use your detail strength to find the core information your customer needs to take the next step. The more people we help reach their goals, the faster we reach ours — no one gets ahead by themselves.
E — Effervescent (Freedom, Energy & Play)
E-types want movement, freedom, and creativity. Restrictions can trigger frustration and impulsive pivots.
Instead of running, slow down, step back, and find another way through the noise. If you decide to leave something behind, make sure you hire the right person — because if not, your business can collapse. And if you’re staying, don’t stare in the rear-view mirror — focus on the people you’re serving and let your goal pull you forward.
The Core Message
Change is a constant. The external landscape will keep shifting.
If you chase conditions, you’ll always feel like you’re running on your hind legs.
But if you’re aligned with your values, centred, and clear on what you’re aiming towards — the way might change, but you’ll always know where you’re going.
Everything you desire has a price.
The question is: are you willing to pay the price?
Quick Summary (Your Action Steps)
-
Identify your obligations and reframe them as conscious choices aligned with your values. Take responsibility for your thoughts, feelings, and actions — and let results be feedback.
-
Break down your Type C goal (that big overwhelming vision) into small, workable steps — ideally daily.
-
Take action immediately. Nothing changes without action. Even internal action counts: visualize it, bring it into your body — how will it feel when it’s done? Then follow with physical action: pick up the phone, send the message, show up, and start the conversations that move you forward.
Next Episode
Next week I’m continuing with Awareness — we’ll go deeper into what it really means to stay centred in shifting conditions, and how to use awareness to create consistent progress (not just motivation).

The mood in the UK has shifted. In boardrooms, coffee shops, and networking rooms, the energy feels heavier. Headlines talk about wealth leaving, rising taxes, and businesses exiting. Many are asking, “Why stay?”
In this episode, I ask a more profitable question: Who is staying to lead?
Welcome to Episode 1 of the 90-Day Identity Shift, part of the AWARE Goal Setting Series on the EG Success Mindset Podcast. This series is for business owners and leaders who want to build through uncertainty instead of shrinking back.
We explore why uncertainty creates a market vacuum, why fortunes are made in transitions, and why you can’t navigate a new economy with an old identity. I introduce the AWARE framework—Alignment, Awareness, Action, Reinforcement, and Evaluation—and explain why Type C goals are essential right now.
You’ll also learn how each CODE personality type (C, O, D, E) responds to uncertainty—and how alignment is the solution for every type.

📍 Welcome back to the EG Success Mindset Podcast with your host, Ernest Gikuma.
This space is designed for business owners, team leaders, and individuals who want to #CommunicateWithClarity, build real #SelfConfidence, and create high-performing #TeamCulture.
Together, we explore the #CODEPersonalityFramework and the #C3Leadership Framework so you can unlock your potential and lead with purpose.
Before we dive into today’s episode, take a moment to discover your CODE Personality Profile — it will help all the concepts come alive:
👉 Start here: https://www.mycodeprofile.com/
🔹 What This Episode Is About
In the last episode, we explored how communication is the color of your confidence — the outward expression of your identity.
Today, we go deeper into the third pillar of the C3 model: #Culture.
Culture is not a slogan, a mission statement, or something written on a wall.
Culture is created.
Culture is repeated.
Culture is lived.
It is the accumulation of behaviors and beliefs — often passed down without question — that determine how people feel, work, think, and perform.
Ernest unpacks how your:
-
Identity (CODE personality)
-
Beliefs (Mindset)
-
Expression (Confidence + Communication)
combine to shape the culture around you, whether thriving… or toxic.
🔹 Why Culture Matters (And Why Most Leaders Ignore It)
Through powerful analogies — including lessons from a doctor who worked with space agencies and insights into cellular biology — Ernest explains:
-
Why every personality type requires a specific environment to perform at their best
-
Why misplaced people underperform (just like cells in the wrong biological environment)
-
How Connectors, Organizers, Detail-Oriented individuals, and Effervescent personalities each thrive… or suffer
-
Why one misaligned personality can weaken the entire team
-
Why most workplace toxicity begins with leadership blind spots, not lack of skill
If you don’t understand your team’s wiring…
If you don’t understand your own wiring…
You cannot create a culture where performance grows naturally.
🔹 Key Culture Insights You’ll Learn
-
Culture is not built in meetings — it is built through small, meaningful, repeated behaviours
-
Your #Mindset shapes the culture you allow, reward, tolerate, or correct
-
People carry the same personality to work and home — you are leading whole human beings
-
Reducing stress in the environment increases performance, clarity, and productivity
-
A team in the wrong environment becomes frustrated, ignored, drained, or disengaged
-
A team in the right environment becomes aligned, energised, and high-performing
Ernest shares real examples of burnt-out Connectors, frustrated Organizers, overlooked Detail-Oriented individuals, and uninspired Effervescent personalities — and how aligning them with their CODE instantly transformed the culture.
🔹 Why This Matters for Leaders
A negative environment cannot produce positive results — something even Albert Einstein agreed with.
Your job as a leader, parent, teacher, manager, or coach is to:
-
Understand your own CODE
-
Understand the CODE of those you lead
-
Shape an environment where every personality can thrive
-
Model emotional intelligence, consistency, and clarity
-
Reduce unnecessary conflict
-
Build trust, alignment, and culture through daily actions
Culture is not magic.
Culture is not accidental.
Culture is built.
And it starts with you.
🚀 Next Steps

Your next breakthrough begins with self-awareness.
